The Fruit of the Spirit
July & August 2010

Dear Friends,

I am humbled, excited, and grateful to be your senior pastor. Humbled because I know this is a big job and will require wisdom, energy and grace beyond myself. Excited because Nancy and I really love being a part of the Baseline community and we believe that God wants to do great things in and through Baseline Church. Grateful because I believe this next season in my life will cause my own relationship with Christ to be stretched and refined like never before.

This summer we will be going through a sermon series on The Fruit of the Spirit. Paul lists these fruit in Galatians 5:22 - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This section of Scripture is very well known... you might even have a piece of Christian artwork in your home which lists all of the fruit. I believe that Paul is giving us a vision of what our life can be like as we partner with the grace of God through the work of the Holy Spirit to transform our life. The call is not for us to try harder to be more loving, joyful, etc... but to explore the means by which we are honestly changed so that these fruit are just a natural outgrowth of our life - they will just naturally happen.

I hope that this is a wonderful summer for you and that you are able to experience some rhythms of life which bring you into close fellowship with the Lord. Somehow in the midst of our busy and quickly-moving lives we need to find some space to allow God to continue His good work in us.
